Best BudgetRank #6 in Gym Flooring & Mats
American Floor Mats 3/8" Solid Rubber Roll (4 x 5 ft)
by American Floor Mats
Score
The solid-rubber option this page was missing: a 3/8-inch (9 mm) solid rubber roll, 4 x 5 ft, for under a rack, a lifting area or a heavy machine, where EVA foam crushes. Sold by American Floor Mats' own store; 4.7 on Amazon from 612 ratings. For repeated heavy deadlift drops, 3/4-inch stall mats are still the tougher floor.
- Under a power rack or bench
- Under a treadmill, bike or rower to protect the floor
- You need a whole-room floor on a budget (the puzzle mats)
- You drop heavy deadlifts often (3/4-inch stall mats)
Strengths
- βSolid rubber, not foam (maker-stated)
- β3/8 in (9 mm) thick
- βOne piece, no seams to separate
- βSold by the maker
Weaknesses
- β20 sq ft covers one station, not a whole room
- βThinner than 3/4-inch stall mats for heavy drops
- βRubber smell at first

Common questions
Is 3/8-inch rubber thick enough for lifting?
It suits racks, benches, dumbbell work and cardio machines. For repeated heavy deadlift drops, a 3/4-inch stall mat or a platform is the safer floor.
How is this different from the rubber-top tiles?
The rubber-top tiles are rubber over EVA foam. This roll is solid rubber all the way through, so it does not compress under a loaded bar the way foam does.

Interlocking 24x24" EVA foam tiles, 1/2" thick, 12 tiles (48 sq ft) per pack. The renter's choice β modular, transportable, no freight cost. Less ideal under iron than stall mats but installs in 10 minutes.
EVA puzzle mat, fine for yoga, cardio, and bodyweight work. Under iron, it crushes. The honest budget option, used correctly. The default listing is 6 tiles (24 sq ft), sold by a third-party seller at or under the list price.
Interlocking 2 x 2 ft tiles with a recycled-rubber top bonded to closed-cell EVA foam, sold in 3/8-inch and 3/4-inch thicknesses (we link the 10-tile, 3/4-inch, 40 sq ft pack). Grippier and firmer than a plain foam puzzle mat and light enough to lay alone, but the maker says it is not recommended where heavy free weights and weight equipment are used.
Rubber-topped rather than plain EVA foam, which is the difference that matters under a rack or a dropped dumbbell β foam dents permanently, rubber does not.
The middle option: rubber-topped like the SUPERJARE but at half the coverage and half the price, which is the right size for a single rack or treadmill footprint rather than a whole room.
